Car Battery Replacement

Car Battery Diagnostics & Replacement Services

As nice as your car’s engine may be, it can’t run without a car battery. And while we all get oil inspections and replacement, sometimes people forget that your battery should also be inspected and checked to avoid being stranded due to a dead battery. Our team at Fred’s Auto Repair recommends having it inspected when you get your oil changed or checked. In case you have a battery that is near the end of its lifecycle, we can easily provide a car battery replacement for your vehicle.

Fred’s Auto Repair’s Battery Diagnostics & Services Include:

  • A battery test to ensure maximum performance
  • Replacing any damaged cable ends
  • Thorough inspection to identify potential dirt, decay, or loose connections
  • Cleaning all battery terminals and cable ends as well
  • Application of protective coating to avoid any erosion or moisture-related issues
  • Car battery replacement (if needed)

Here are some of the most common questions we get about car batteries, maintenance, and replacement:

Is there a reason my car battery keeps dying?

There are very few things more frustrating than a car battery. With that being said, if you are continuously having dead battery issues, this is indicative of a bigger issue. Possible reasons could include an issue with your alternator (charging system), your car battery is old and cannot handle a charge properly, or even extreme cold weather. A possible way to combat this is to frequently take your car out for a quick drive so that the battery doesn’t sit unused for days. It should be noted that these issues can happen even when the car is not in use.

Always reach out to our team when you are experiencing car battery issues.

How long can I expect my car battery to last before I need to replace it?

While not set in stone, normally your car battery should last anywhere between four to six years. Factors that can affect a car battery life are the weather conditions in which you live, the type of vehicle you own/drive, and even your driving patterns and activities.

It is always recommended to check with a professional auto shop team to see if your car needs a battery replacement.

Why do I hear a click when I start my car?

When you hear a click (or a sequence of them) it probably means you either have a dead car battery or one that will be dead soon. If you notice only one big click when starting your vehicle this could actually point to a faulty starter, not a dead battery, so be sure you pay attention to this detail.

Don’t wait until it’s too late, and always contact and visit a certified mechanic whenever you have difficulty starting your vehicle.

Is it possible for a battery to self-charge?

The short answer is no, but a battery’s alternator is made for the purpose of holding a charge and power. As previously mentioned, a faulty alternator can potentially be the cause of your car not starting.

How can I know if my car battery is good?

One way to know if your battery may have an issue is if you go to start your car but the engine won't crank or start - in some cases, you may be able to crank the engine but it still won’t start. Another possible indicator of a battery problem is if your car sometimes starts and sometimes doesn’t, or if you have had to have a lot of battery boosts over a short period of time.

My lights can still turn on, but my car won’t start… is my battery dead?

In the event you can still turn on your lights, chances are that your battery is not dead. What it could indicate is that your car battery is on its last leg and may need replacement. If you think your lights seem weaker to dimmer than normal, that can mean your battery is almost dead. And if you are having trouble getting your car to crank, this might mean you need a car battery replacement as soon as you can.
