Oil Change Services For your Car

Automobile oil

When it comes to taking care of your automobile, getting regular oil changes is one of the most essential maintenance routines that will extend the life and safe operation of your car.

Automobile engines operate at high temperatures and have internal moving parts. Motor oil provides lubrication and helps to keep particles such as dust or sludge from getting into your engine. Protecting your engine with the appropriate oil filter, scheduled maintenance services and general auto care will allow you to reach high mileage with your car.

At Fred’s Auto Repair when we service your car, we also perform a complete chassis lube. We inspect your air filter, belts and hoses, fluid levels, and tire pressure. We perform a multipoint inspection on every car and text, email, or print out the results.

The Benefits Most Often Attributed to Regular Oil Changes

  • Smoother, quieter, and improved engine performance
  • Protection against dirt and debris build up that causes engine wear
  • Better mile per gallon performance
  • Less harmful emission
  • Extended engine life

The reason why oil needs to be replaced is its useful life is limited. As oil ages, the lubricant becomes less effective. Engine exhaust, heat, and friction break down the fluid and its additives, decreasing lubrication and increasing sludge build up.

Due to this eventual breakdown, it is recommended that you service oil based on travel or time. The travel ranges typically from 3,000 miles to 10,000 miles. The time interval ranges from three months to one year. In general, you should follow the recommended schedule.

However, be advised that this interval assumes moderate temperatures, highway miles, and low dust environment. According to Edmunds.com:

“Sixteen of 34 carmakers now use oil life monitoring systems in their 2013 model-year vehicles, including all threevehicle-manufacturer”.

Over 50% of new cars have diagnostic monitoring. High mileage synthetic oil change interval become effectively customized on the way a specific car is driven and the conditions it encounters. With longer service intervals, do not forget to check other fluid levels such as a chassis lube and examining belts and hoses.

Warm up your car’s engines before driving to evaporate excess moisture and other impurities that form in your engine. If your driving style involves rapid acceleration, you place additional stress on your engine. Other stressful driving conditions are cold winters, hot summers, heavy towing, and dusty conditions which will prompt more frequent oil changes.

Synthetic blend, conventional oil, or diesel oil are among the different blends available. Full synthetic oil is more effective at resisting breakdown and more resistant to higher temperatures. If your car manual advises to use synthetics, then failure to do so may void your warranty.

Synthetics last longer than conventional oil, but it is more expensive; the benefit exceeds the cost in many, but not all scenarios.

As your car gets older, say over 75,000 miles, more frequent oil changes might be warranted for other reasons. Contact Fred's for service today. Once your car is registered with us, we will track and perform preventative services as needed. Our ASE certified technicians will inform you on the appropriate interval for your car’s preventive maintenance regimen.
