4 Signs You’re in Need of Car Air Conditioner Repair

Sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic without AC can certainly be aggravating, but it can be avoided if you know the signs indicating the need of car air conditioner repair. At Fred’s Auto Repair, we’ve helped many prep their cars for scorching summers, and we wanted to highlight some signs here indicative of AC repairs, so read on!

1. Loss of Cooling

Is your car not cooling down like it used to? This could be a sign you need to bring it in to have it inspected by a professional. You may need coolant or have a coolant leak. It could also be caused by a broken air compressor, fan motor, damaged evaporator, or a blown fuse.

2. Airflow Problems

To keep your car’s interior cool and comfy, it needs to have the proper airflow so conditioned air can enter the cabin of your vehicle. Airflow problems can be caused by any number of things including a broken fan or a loose or broken blower hose. Worst of all, your AC unit could have mold inside it stopping airflow – so having it checked is extremely important.

3. Weird Noises

Starting your AC up will cause a little noise every now and then, but it’s that clanking and rattling that you need to worry about; this is most often a sign there’s a broken component in your AC unit. It could be anything from a broken fan blower to some debris that’s become lodged in your air conditioning unit and should be addressed immediately.

4. Foul Odors

If your AC is emitting a stinky odor, there’s likely an issue with its filter. Often, when a filter needs to be replaced, it can develop mold and smell awful. This mold can then spread throughout the rest of your AC unit, spreading the mold. This could pose a health risk if you’re inhaling that mold every time you drive.
