AC Repair,Blog / July 7, 2021

Summertime is finally here, and one of the last things you want to deal with is a broken air conditioner. It’s so important to make sure that you’re scheduling preventative maintenance with your AC to head off any issues before they happen. It’s also important to do your own periodic inspections so that if car air conditioning repair is needed, you’ll notice right away. Here are some of the signs that your air conditioner should be serviced, so make sure you keep a lookout so you can bring it in for a professional inspection right away!

Visible Water Stains

If you see any visible water stains on your mat, then there is a high possibility you might have a leaky dashboard. This might be an indication of a clogged hose that prevents the water from being properly drained. Causes of this issue might be age or an excess of moisture, however, it’s important to get it checked out as soon as possible to avoid damage to other components of the vehicle.

Weak Airflow

Another sign of a malfunctioning car air conditioner is weak airflow from the vents. This often means that the air is experiencing challenges in exiting the vents and can be a sign of mold or mildew in the evaporator core, a fried ventilation fan, a loose blower hose, or loose seals.

Lack of Coolness

If your air conditioner feels like it’s only blowing hot air and has lost its cool, there are several potential causes. You might need more refrigerant, a cleanout of the expansion tube or refrigerant charging hose, or potentially even service on the compressor or motor. Depending on what type of damage it is, the fix could be relatively minor or on the larger side depending on the cause.

Strange Noises

If you hear an abnormal rattling noise whenever your AC is on, there might be an issue with your fan belt or condenser. It’s also possible that there might be some debris stuck in the fan. Make sure you don’t ignore these noises as they might be a symptom of a larger problem!

Bad Odors

Never ignore your sense of smell! If you start to notice a nasty odor it could be the sign of a dirty or worn filter, and cleaning or replacement will be necessary. Make sure if the smell persists you also check your evaporator case or air vent as bad odors might also be a cause of mold in the evaporator case or air vent.
