While it may not sound all that important, tire rotation actually plays a big part in tire safety and car maintenance. Consistently rotating your tires can help to prevent uneven tread wear and in the process, help to extend the life of your tires.

Rotating your tires does not mean spinning it around and checking them for possible defects. It refers to the process of taking tires off one axel and putting them onto another axel. Depending on your vehicle, there are a few different ways that you can rotate your tires. You can rotate them front to back, diagonal or you can rotate them side to side. Check your owner’s manual to determine which way your tires should be rotated.

  • Why Do You Have To Rotate Your Tires?

The simple answer is that all the tires do not wear equally. If you think about it, the tires at the front are not only doing the turning, but they are also supporting the weight of the engine, so they wear faster. So, if you rotate your tires, they will wear more equally. If you move the front tires to the back, they will take less wear. When you rotate your tires every time you do an oil change, they will wear more equally.

  • How Often Should You Rotate Tires?

Car mechanics recommend you rotate your tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, or every time you do an oil change.
