Fred’s Auto Repair specializes in replacement tires. Worried that your tires might not be in the proper condition so as to provide reliable safety when driving on the roads? We have some tips on several warning signs that your vehicle needs new tires below:
-
Your Tire Tread Is Too Shallow
The minimum legal limit for a tire’s tread is 2/32 inch. However, it is recommended that you replace your tires once they reach 4/32 inch of the remaining tread depth – especially if much of your driving is in slippery conditions such as ice, snow, or heavy rains. A good way to measure whether or not your tires’ tread is sufficient is to place a penny into the tread. If you can still see Lincoln’s head, then it is time for new tires. Alternatively, take a look at the built in tread wear bars on the tires. If the tread is even with the bars, this is another indication to replace them.
-
Uneven Wear
If you have been driving with poor wheel alignment, there is a chance that your tires will start to wear unevenly. The first sign of uneven wear is when you notice the tires’ steel cords in some parts of the tire but not all of it.
-
Your Car Is Vibrating
Vibrating can be a symptom of many problems requiring professional auto repair services – including unevenly inflated tires.
-
Your Car Isn’t Performing Well
If you notice that your car is suddenly performing differently, the culprit may be your tires. This is especially true if you notice that your stopping distance has increased or that the vehicle is hydroplaning a lot more. Remember, tires that suddenly start to slip upon acceleration almost certainly require replacing!
