Even if you never miss a scheduled car maintenance, knowing the signs that you may have car issues is very important. So, here are three things that indicate you need a car tune-up right away.

Flashing Check Engine Light

While no driver wants to see it, if your dreaded check engine light appears there is something wrong with your car. Be sure to bring your car in ASAP to an auto repair shop if you notice your check engine light flashing.

We highly recommend stopping driving anytime you see your check engine light flashing. Call to have your car towed to avoid any further damage or issues. If your check engine light is on, but not flashing, drive it home and schedule an appointment immediately.

Gas Mileage

Have you been going to the pump more often even though you are doing the same amount of driving as you always have? If you are getting poor gas mileage, this is an indication that there is a problem. While the problem could be as simple as low tire pressure, if you check and correct it and are still having issues, there is an underlying issue. Some causes could be loose spark plugs, faulty fuel injectors or even an issue with your emissions system.

Since this issue can be hard to pinpoint, it is always recommended to reach out to an auto shop. They will be able to check your engine and perform the necessary auto service needed to have your vehicle running as it should. Pay attention to miles driven. As your odometer approaches certain milestones, say 100,000 miles or per your owner’s manual, consider having your entire car thoroughly inspected. Even if it appears to be running as usual, gradual declines are hard to perceive by many drivers.

A Loud Engine & Drive

Are you noticing your car is being extra noisy when you drive it? Anytime you hear new or unusual noises coming from your car that you didn’t before, don’t ignore it. If you hear a high pitched or screeching noise you may have low fluids or a belt problem. If it is a clanging type noise, there could be a loose engine part in your car.

The reason we say never to ignore these types of noises or issues is that doing so can result in more serious issues and costly repairs.
