A car engine that overheats for an extended period of time can become permanently damaged. Engine overheating can lead to a cracked head gasket, a warped cylinder head or even an exploded radiator! If you notice that your car engine is overheating frequently, you are probably wondering why. This is what you need to know:

  • There Are Issues With Your Cooling System

All vehicles are equipped with a cooling system that is specifically designed to keep the car engine cool even when the weather is warm, and when driving long distances. If the cooling system is leaking, the engine can quickly start to overheat. The good news is that with the help of a car mechanic, this is an easy fix. If a leak is not the problem, then you may simply need to top-up or replace your coolant.

Leaks, bad thermostat, faulty head gaskets or radiator caps and low coolant levels are the most common problems associated with a car engine overheating. However, another culprit could be a blocked coolant hose. If the coolant cannot flow through the hose without hindrance, the engine will slowly start to heat up. Luckily, a blockage can usually be cleared by flushing out the system and refilling the coolant.

  • There Is A Problem With The Radiator

Your radiator may start to leak or clog up over time, and this can lead to car engine problems – including overheating. Overheating may also start to occur if the radiator fan stops working properly. If you suspect a problem with your car’s radiator, it is best to visit a car repair shop for assistance.

  • There Is A Problem With The Water Pump

The water pump is responsible for pumping coolant through your vehicle. If it starts to leak, gets blocked or the impeller vanes erode, then engine overheating is imminent. A damaged or poorly functioning water pump will require auto mechanic services from a qualified car mechanic.
